Detailed Description for Profile Design TwentyFour 78 Full Carbon Clincher
TwentyFour Series wheels have been crafted using a proprietary pre-preg carbon fibre formula to create the wheel which is fast, light, stiff and reliable. The critical area of the full carbon clincher is the clincher bead, tyre bed and brake track, and these are created using a patented automated process that creates a uniform carbon layup, increasing compaction and reducing voids. The result is a structure that is stronger, stiffer, and more heat tolerant.
Tolerance to heat is important as the conversion of kinetic energy into heat energy is what gives brakes their stopping power. Using a rim that can take more heat, in combination with a custom formulated brake pad set results in more consistent braking and reduced stopping distances over that of other carbon fibre wheels.
Having survived rigorous testing procedures, the full range of Profile Design road wheels are also officially certified by the UCI for road and track competitions around the world.
Profile Design has analyzed weather and wind speed data from popular long-distance triathlon courses around the world to produce a develop rim shapes that combat the varying conditions and wind angles experienced on the race course and at average typical race pace. Profile Design engineers designed, tested and revised hundreds of rim shapes to find the very nuances that affect crosswind feedback and handling. Partnering with a team of technicians specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics from golf equipment to race cars, they were able to merge their expansive CFD knowledge with Profile Design's aerodynamic expertise. Manipulating overall width, width location, depth and conicity, they sorted through months of generated data to select the highest performing rim profiles.
TwentyFour Series hubs are forged from 6061-T6 Aluminum then precision machined with a tolerance of 100th of a millimeter increasing durability, strength and stiffness. The freehub body is machined from 7001-T6 Aluminum then shot peened hard anodized to create an 18% increase in material strength compared to standard aluminum freehubs. This prevents the cassette from digging into the freehub body resulting in better shift performance and increased power transfer.
